Shop: Pretty Paper Please

Branding solutions is what I offer my clients on a daily basis. When I had to turn the tables and think about how to brand myself and stationery line... it became a whole new challenge.

As part of my consignment/wholesale business series over on Lotus Events' blog, I've shared my insights on branding yourself in today's post.

I'll be covering lookbook design, line sheets and catalogues over the next few weeks. Make sure to follow along!

  1. Hi Mélanie, you've written some very good and informative posts. Even though I've been selling for a while, I'm always looking for ways to improve my method of contacting stores, especially via e-mail, as that has been my lowest success rate. I've always been afraid to send them my catalog via email, because it's pretty big (2 MB). One time it even went straight into the buyer's spam folder!

  2. Hey Michelle, I'm glad you're enjoying my posts so far! I've learned a lot this last year. The biggest teacher in the end, has been all of the trial and error. ;)

I don't like to send my catalogues as attachments but rather upload them to my Issuu.com account and create a virtual catalogue and lookbook. I then link to those from my email. I haven't had any issues with that yet. Maybe give it a try?

I only attach images if they've specifically asked me to.

  3. Hi Mélanie,
That's a really good idea! I will try that - I was wondering if something like that existed!

Another thing I've found helpful, especially if you're trying to approach stores from out of town, is to write them an email about a week or two beforehand asking for an appointment. That way, even if they don't respond, you'll have some pretext for dropping in. (It's true that sometimes they don't respond because they're not interested, but other times, they're just too busy.)
